Synopsis

The main character of novel "The Enigma Chronicles" is Mitchell Roberts, who started of life as Paul Simmons. The boy, who was good looking, was not shown any love growing up and therefore he had difficulty in showing his true feelings, for fear that they would be misconstrued. Paul's mother had an affair with an American pilot and found that she was pregnant. Once the baby was born, the mother was thrown out of the family home and Paul was raised by the matriarch of the family, his strict grandmother who would, for the slightest indiscretion thrash Paul and lock him in the cellar, telling him that he was evil like his father. Whilst growing up Paul was called the bastard of the family. Paul was taken from the family home to live with his elder cousin, who Paul thought had done it for love. He soon found out that it was just to use him for free labour and to use the boy as a punching bag whenever the mood took him. Whilst living at the cousin's farm, four so called friends of the cousin brutally raped Paul and after dumped him in a forest, leaving the boy to find his way home. Paul was found injured by the driver of a Jaguar, who nearly hit the boy when he staggered onto the road, the driver took the boy to hospital for treatment and then with the permission of the family, who were glad to get rid of the bastard, whom they said lead men on, home to his castle in Ireland. 

Paul after a disagreement with his benefactor ran away and taking his benefactors gun, caught up with his rapists and injured them. He was found by a police friend of his benefactor, who took the boy to his home, where Paul met the policeman's younger sister again, she was four years older than the boy. On a visit to the castle Paul and Esther the sister loved each other as often as they could and unbeknown to Paul, Esther fell pregnant. One of the rapists died and the policeman, Paul's benefactor and a Military Officer covered up for Paul's actions, by changing his name to Mitchell Roberts. The Mitchell came from his father's surname, and the Roberts, which came from his benefactor's first name of Robert.

At the insistence of the benefactor and the Military Officer, Mitch was taken to join the Army. He excelled through his training and finally joined the SAS. On finding out that Esther had given birth to twins Max and Maxine, Mitch and Esther allowed the children to be adopted by her brother Mick and his wife Martha.

During his tour in the Army, Mitch was christened the Iceman, due to his lack of feelings, or possibly because he did not show his feelings. Whilst serving in the Army his son Max was kidnapped by the IRA and Mitch rescued boy, but was almost killed. Following his Army career, he formed a partnership with Morgan Philips and Murray James starting the Triple M security empire.

The security firm prospered and Mitch and his assistant Paul, often found men abusing boys a thing he hated and detested. The firm grew like a weed and finally he was asked for assistance by the Russian President. During this task he rescued Max his son and the son's lover from the KGB. Later he removed a pirate who was threatening Mick's island. Mitch was finally able to tell his children the truth about their parents and he and Max return to the castle to eradicate the abuse of young men by an organization called the Blue Boy Club. Max also finds his missing younger brother and the latter part of the book deals with Max and the younger brother Mark and their part in closing the Blue Boy Club down.
